Use of CBD for aggression in Autism
My autistic daughter’s health is changing due to the weight gain caused by her psych med Abilify. I am exploring other options of treatment and came across CDB . Any thoughts or experiences regarding use of CBD to wean and or eventually replace psych meds?

Hello, my daughter is 25 years old with autism. I have tried everything. CBD helps a little. But I still have to use her xanax on really bad days.
What is CBD? Please
I'm a grand father. My very first grandchildren (girl and boy) have autism and ADHD, respectively .
It's running us cold. Any idea how such could happen?
@efevotu1988 CBD is a component in cannabis

Ginger
CBD is a medicinal cannabinoid in the Hemp plant. (Cannabis Sativa)
My 6 year old granddaughter is mostly non verbal ASD.
I read several research studies regarding ‘full spectrum CBD’ for mitigation of acute aggressive or non responding children. It helps calm them down and focus for a bit.
I shared the studies, with my son and daughter in law and sent them a bottle of ‘full spectrum CBD’ and $100 for more.
That was over a year ago.
She’s now more calm longer, and saying a few more words and playing with her 10 month old baby brother pretty calmly.
and Just finished Kindergarten
But, it only helps if taken daily.
Google the ‘human endocannabinoid system’ to understand more!
In almost every study,
Full spectrum CBD was superior to Isolate or Broad Spectrum CBD.
All the cannabinoids, all the terpenes and all the flavonoids working together.
(CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN very small amounts of THC as well)
Read about the terpenes and flavonoids in the cannabis sativa plant as well.
The Israeli’s are ahead of the world in research of understanding the benefits of the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids of the cannabis sativa plant.
Hello, I’m an adult with autism and I have a couple things to add to this conversation that hopefully might help.
1. I’m very glad you’re getting your daughter off of Abilify. I was on Abilify for one year and I gained 50 pounds within 7 months, developed metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance. I’ve managed to lose 20 pounds since then, but it’s not an overstatement to say it ruined my health. The mood stabilization medicine I am on now is Lamictal, I take it because I am also bipolar (cyclothymia), in addition to autistic. For me, it has minimal side effects, does not affect my weight at all, thankfully, but there was a bit of hair thinning that did happen. I still highly recommend it over Abilify!
2. I also do take CBD products myself. I only use the company WYLD, they are affordable, and their formulations are actually strong enough to work. I cannot have THC because of the bipolar, it gives me psychosis. So I only take and enjoy their CBD gummies that are often mixed with a different kind of cannabinoid. I take a CBD + CBD gummy in the morning sometimes, and a CBD + CBN gummy in the evening sometimes. I would not say CBD is a solution for autistic “aggression.” I also don’t call it aggression. I would encourage you to research what autistic meltdowns and shutdowns are and modify your daily routines and environment accordingly. A person with autism is rarely becoming “aggressive” without a reason for it. They’re overstimulated, they’re frustrated and can’t communicate it, or something is wrong. So it’s important to identify the source of the behavior, not just try to stop the behavior. I hope that makes sense!
I applaud you for wanting to help your daughter, please keep researching and learning about autistic experiences from autistic adults too because it’s very important to help understand what your child is going through! Thank you for listening, I hope some of my lived experience helps.
