Urination every hour

Posted by ellen45 @ellen45, Jun 21 9:03am

My husband has been on abiraterone and Lupron depot for 18 months. All of a sudden he is urinating every hour - he has been up all night. He is Gleason 9, grade 4.

Has anyone experienced this? He had these problems before he started radiation and abiraterone, but he’s been ok until just recently.

Thank you.

I was like that for a number of years when I was taking Zoladex. About 12 months ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and since I got onto insulin my toilet trips have finally gone back to normal. I obviously had diabetes for quite some time before they diagnosed it because once they started to monitor it early mornings my sugar count always dropped so fasting for a blood test always gave low readings. Now I get up about 1am and have a small bowl of museli and that stops by blood dropping down low at 4 or 5 am. Not sure if it helps but worth looking into

The mayoclinic.org web page on Abiraterone lists, among its "common" side effects:
- Frequent urge to urinate
- Increased urge to urinate during the night
- Waking to urinate at night

So, it sounds like your husband's experience isn't unusual. But it's clearly affecting his quality of life. I experience something similar during my EBRT treatments, while on Orgovyx - it was really taking a toll. He increased my dosage of Flomax, which I was already taking for an enlarged prostate. It helped some, but not as much as wrapping up the radiation treatments.

I agree with others who have suggested getting in touch with the RO - sooner rather than later.
