Tymlos holiday?
Has anyone stopped, then restarted Tymlos after 6 months? I’ve been on Tymlos for 8 months and will be eligible for Medicare in 6 months. Would it be harmful to the bone building process to take a 6 month holiday?

That is a terrible idea. First, you don't make medication decisions on your own. You talk to your doctor. Second, you cannot just stop taking Tymlos and do nothing for six months. You could lose all your gains and not even know it. The protocol for Tymlos wasn't "six months is good enough, then you can take a long holiday."
Please discuss your concerns with your doctor.
You might be expecting more from Medicare than you should. Your out-of-pocket costs will depend on which Part D (prescription) or Medical Advantage plan you sign up for.
That's a bit of a harsh response, don't you think? You could have just said, please talk with your doctor to discuss a stopgap approach and its "possible" ramifications. Maggie25 is just enquiring. Please think about how you word things before posting.
I agree with the advice to ask your doctor. That said, Tymlos' anabolic effect peaks very early at one month then begins to drop over the treatment period but stays at a consistent level.
There is a risk of bone loss during the time you are off it. You could take a bisphosphonate during that time but that may impact your second round of treatment as the bisphosphonate could blunt the impact of the Tymlos.
Personally, I'd try to do the entire treatment in one go if possible, especially if you are tolerating the medication well. That's what the research studies were based on to determine its effectiveness. Any deviation from that may not get you the results you want.
If you have insurance through your employer you may be eligible for a savings card through Tymlos. I recently signed up for it. It was so easy I thought there must be more to the process. I think it is just for a year and I pay $0 for Tymlos. https://tymlos.com/access-and-savings/
You must have way better insurance than I do. I called about the savings card and was told I would either be given $3000 per year or $7000 per year and they wouldn't tell me ahead of time. Since I would owe 70% the cost of the drug through my insurance, neither one of those scenarios made the drug affordable for me.
I’m sorry the savings card won’t work for you. Thank you for letting everyone know that they should ask to see what the total amount is given on the savings card especially if you are responsible for a large percentage of the cost of the drug.
I was never given a total amount of savings. I went on the Tymlos site, answered a couple of questions and was given a savings card number to give to my insurance. I didn’t know if it would work or what my copay would be until I ordered my Tymlos pen.
I'm glad it worked for you!!! I called because I had heard about people getting to take it for free and was SO excited. But when I got told the amounts, I was crestfallen. I hope the advisor I spoke to with the program knew what he was talking about because I never filled out any of the forms based on what he said. But yeah, based on what my insurance said would be covered, plus the Tymlos program it was still way out of reach. Maybe I'll get better insurance next year (?). But I buy it through the marketplace and they consider these high tier specialty drugs, so they don't get covered very well, At least in my case.
I saw that Tymlos also has Radius Assist (different than the savings card) for those that need help with the cost of their medication. I don’t know what the income levels are or how much they assist but if you are still interested in Tymlos, it might be worth looking in to. Below is from the previous sent link.
Radius Assist is an assistance program that may help those who cannot afford their medication
It provides TYMLOS (abaloparatide) injection therapy at no cost to qualified patients in need
To qualify, patients must meet the eligibility criteria and, along with their healthcare provider, submit all required documentation
If a patient is accepted into the program, they will receive up to 3 months of medication per shipment, and up to 24 months of therapy. Acceptance into the program is valid for the current calendar year and with a valid prescription (subject to continued eligibility) and until the patient has reached a total of 24 months of therapy provided by Radius Assist§
