Tymlos and lower back pain?

Posted by susanjohnston @susanjohnston, May 18 10:10pm

After 6 weeks on Tymlos, I am just now experiencing lower back pain and stiffness, especially when I wake up in the morning and after sitting for a while. The pain goes away with ibuprofen. I will track my progress. So far the discomfort has been going on for five days. Has anyone experienced this side effect and if so, how long did it last? Thanks so much.

Hello @susanjohnston, I'd like to invite @dustyskeleton who has discussed back pain after Tymlos to share an update on whether or not the side-effect went away with time.

@susanjohnston, how are you doing with your back pain? Is this a side-effect that you were able to discuss with your prescribing provider? It sounds like you were able to manage the pain with ibuprofen, is that still the case if you are experiencing the pain?

Thanks so much. The pain is gone so maybe it was unrelated to the Tymlos? I feel like I’m on high alert with every little symptom.

Thank you. Do you happen to know of a Mayo Clinic osteoporosis specialist who will do telemedicine with a CA patient?

@susanjohnston - it may be worth going through the application process to see if there is a possibility for a virtual visit, https://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.

Hi,
I took the advice of many on the discussion board and started with smaller doses/clicks, (3), ramping up very gradually, over the course of two weeks, to the full dose of 8. I still occasionally get a random pang in my head/back, but overall, I'm tolerating the Tymlos okay. When my doctor learned about my back spasms, she didn't suggest cutting back and increasing the dosage gradually, nor did she say that back spasms pain were actually a known common side effect. Again, as many have noted, the doctors prescribing this medication seem to be unaware that the dosage can be adjusted downwards.
Cheers and good luck, Dusty
