Twitching Worry HELP!

Posted by sakuralove86 @sakuralove86, 3 days ago

Hello everyone,
New here and I could really use some clarity here or maybe similar stories or just anything really.
So I can't even recall what came first my eyelid or my finger but they were twitching. My eyelid twitched for a couple of hours and its topped. My index finger however would do this weird move where it would move to the side on its own and then tremored. This went on for a few days.
I also started feeling twitches in my hip, calves, back of arm, in my back and buttocks. The twitches are mostly on my left side but they have been pretty much all over.
One time my upper lip quivered for like five minutes but that stopped. My index finger stopped but then a couple of days later. My thumb started having twitches for two days straight. Luckily my thumb stopped. However, the twitches are still ongoing on my entire body.
It seemed like it was calming down however, My left calf is now non-stop twitching 27-7 it feels like popcorn twitches and sometimes i will get aches and pain in my calf and the rest of my leg. mostly the calf area.
I have felt fatigue and pain in my upper bicep where when i move my arms up a lot it starts to hurt. Other days I feel fine and energetic others really tired.
I googled the reasons and now i have gone down the darkest hole. I am fearing the three letter words :(. I cant seem to concentrate and enjoy my life anymore its all i think about. I set an appointment with a general neurologist but until then I am just so afraid. Could this be ALS?
I did have an EMG study about 8 months ago on my legs due to tarsal tunnel syndrome which the EMG consult did verify i had tarsal tunnel syndrome, he did mention that i may be in the early stages of neuropathy but that the numbers were not enough to notate on his chart, so to keep my sugars controlled. I am diabetic. I am overweight and have other health issues. However, when I was going through my tarsal tunnel issue I did have a sudoscan months before the EMG and it showed low risk of neuropathy. So I am just a mess and confused as to why i am having these twitches. My anxiety over this is becoming super debilitating. Please help 🙁

It could be something innocuous like BFS. I empathize with you since I went through basically the same experience with these symptoms. The only way to get peace of mind is to get a 4 limb EMG. In the meantime, there are other possible causes that can be ruled out with a simple blood test (various deficiencies and Lyme can cause similar symptoms). The hardest thing to do is not stress out or focus on the fasciculations because that tends to exacerbate the situation. I have BFS (which can only be diagnosed by ruling everything else out) and it is not fun but knowing that it isn't something worse is important.

I had twitches all over the place arms, legs, my back you name it. I twitch 24/7 and I’ve had this for 20 years. When this first started I was like you and was fearful. I educated myself went and saw a doctor got an EMG. They could not determine where my twitching came from so I was diagnosed with BFS. About four years ago, I develop peripheral neuropathy in both my feet. The twitching is still there and gets worse when I have a flareup. It Idiopathic so no cause was ever found. My advice to you is to see a good neurologist get an EMG and stay off the internet. Hope you feel better soon

Hello, sorry to hear about your twitches. Mine started in an unusual way. I guess this stuff is all unusual anyways about two years ago. I was getting tingling and pain in my upper back went to my doctor. He wasn’t there. I had to deal with a nurse practitioner. He prescribed that I take a muscle relaxer and went home and took it. I was pins and needles from head to toe in 15 minutes went back the next day to see him again it’s like he didn’t believe me ended up in the emergency room for four days cause they thought I had a stroke which I did not for the next four days I had waves going up and down my body from my toes to my head like somebody running a finger down piano keys back-and-forth very disturbing then that kind of subsided. My legs felt like somebody was pouring battery acid down the inside of them and saw a neurologist at a local hospital. He gave me an EMG test everything to seem to be normal He said that he thought I small fiber neuropathy did a couple of punch biopsy tests they came back normal put me on gabapentin then I didn’t like it wasn’t doing anything for me. By the way this was very debilitating then I got an appointment at Mass general with the neurologist took me seven months they examined me. they said what I had was benign if they were living in my body, they wouldn’t be saying that I told him about the muscle relaxes. They said oh that can’t cause that all I know is that I didn’t have that severe reaction before I took it and I had a severe reaction after I took it. Maybe this was coming and it just sped it up who knows when I first came down with this curse I could only walk about 200 feet and then have to come back home and lay on the couch the rest of the day every day I went a little further little further took me six months so I could walk a mile then I could go 3 miles and I could ride my bicycle a couple of miles and walk a couple of miles kept pushing myself anyways I won’t continue about the symptoms. It’s too time-consuming, but I ended up with that twitching about six months after this happened to me I twitch from head to toe randomly kinda like what you described I thought about ALS, but there’s nothing you can do about it so I just keep exercising my diet is superb. I lost 40 pounds I just played in a Pickleball tournament in my town and I won the tournament. I still have the twitching and I still have the tingling but not as bad as it was .some days it’s very mild for a hour or two, but it always comes roaring back in the morning when I wake up. on rare occasions. I can hardly tell. Sometimes this freedom lasts a half an hour up to two hours or so, that’s a good day . I was petrified when this happened to me, but I’m kind of used to it now and I’m sick of doctors. don’t seem to do much once you refuse to take the medication that they prescribed to you they don’t seem to want to have anything to do with you. I can’t stand being doped up. anyways that’s my story. Keep the faith stay strong sometimes that’s all we have. But it’s enough to get your through
