My journey with rectal cancer: What's your experience?
Hello everyone. I live in the UK and was diagnosed with rectal cancer 2 weeks ago. Since then I've been fast tracked through our NHS system with an MRI scan, CT scan, and another MRI scan this coming Monday to check out a spot on my liver, followed by a meeting with a consultant.
I've been told the tumour is 6" inside from my anus. Can anyone inform me if this would be rated low, mid, or high up in the rectum? Thanks.
This is a great forum for exchanging information. Hats off to the Mayo Clinic!

Hello Colleen. Thanks for tagging fellow members.
Today I learnt from my consultant that the tumour is high up in the rectum (15cm/6") which I understand is good news. It means that potentially the colon can be attached to the rectum and this would avoid having a stoma bag. But this all depends on the results of the MRI liver scan I had done early today to see if it has spread to the liver. I shall know tomorrow when I see the consultant again. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for your support.

Welcome, @martin77. I'm tagging fellow members like @samanthaf @amariewilkinson @wilcy @fastrategizer who have experience with rectal cancer and may be able to share their experience about tumor location with you.
I'm wondering about the reason for your question about the tumor's location. Are you concerned that the location may affect treatment options or the outlook?
