Trus Biopsy procedure
I had my prostate biopsy yesterday, but wanted to share, just in case any of you men out there are nervous. I had been scheduled for my biospy for over a month, and have been nervous as hell. Ive watched a lot of men's videos of the journey, and I found a lot of them saying it was no big thing, and not that bad. Ime here to tell you, they were correct!!! The nurse first gave me two antibiotics shots, which i think hurt the most, for they felt very thick going in. The nurse then squirted some kind of liquid into my rectum to start the numbing, then waitied a few minutes before they stated the procedure. After a few minutes, the doctor came in, and turned on the laughing gas (which i paid for), and started to go over what he is actually going to do. He first gave me a finger exam, then said he was going to insert probe to take pictures and measurements. Once he was done with that, he said he was going to give me injections to numb the prostate. I have to say, that was one of the things i was fearful of the whole procedure, but i DIDNT feel a thing, and was relieved. He then said he was starting to take 12 samples, and will hear a loud noise from the biopsy gun. I can honestly say i barely felt a tap, but just a slight tug, when assuming the spring action of the needle was gathering the sample. It was over in less than 5 minutes i would say, and it took longer to prep and clean up. I did have a lot of blood when wiping my self up, but nothing major. I forgot to mention in the beginning, but my nerves were so bad, I did take a xanax, but not sure if that really helped, nor the laughing gas, for i never got into that state of euphoria when at the dentist office, but honestly, i really didnt need in my opinion. I hope my story helps, if any men out there is dreading the procedure, but it wasnt bad at all. If sometime down the road I have to have the biopsy again, then i now know its a piece a cake, and I wont be stressed out like I have been for the past month. Hope this helps..

Similar experience. I had 4 transrectal biopsies during the more than 8 years (2012-2020) that I was on active surveillance. Taking an antibiotic, a Valium an hour beforehand, and getting lots of lidocaine worked.
For my fourth (& final) transrectal biopsy before receiving active treatment, I invited my wife to be in the room where the MRI-guided transrectal procedure was being done. I wanted her to see that it wasn’t as painful as she was imagining. She said ok; the urologist said ok. So she sat in the corner of the room (towards my head) during the entire procedure.
I’m sure that’s an experience she’ll never forget!

3 ReactionsI was put out for my biopsy and Any future biopsies will be fusion ones and I will be put out. I have had a couple of friends who had biopsies while awake. They found it uncomfortable at best.
As we get older, there are plenty of moments of pain we endure. If one can get past the risks of being put out into the twilight zone, why not lessen the stress and possible pain.

3 ReactionsI expect the urologist mentioned that ejaculate is often brown (from blood caused by the needles) It is normal.

1 Reaction@thmssllvn yes, he did. Ive been lucky so far, and only had blood in urine and stool the evening of the day of procedure, and no traces since. Since my testosterone is so low, not even in the mood to find out..lol
Yep, that pretty much echoes my sole experience with the trans-rectal, minus the laughing gas and xanax. Really just more uncomfortable, overall, than actually painful, for this 71 year old, and I just drove myself home. These doctors and assistants really know what the heck they're doing!
It's weird how much alarmist disinformation I've seen about this procedure on Youtube, at least, and probably all over social media (to which I pretty much don't subscribe), presumably.
But THANK YOU for sharing that, it brings back fond memories, LOL!
