Trintellix (antidepressant) Bone fractures side effect?

Posted by savvyme1 @savvyme1, Mar 21 6:07pm

I have been taking Trintellix 10 mg daily for a few years. I also have osteoporosis, and have had 2 fragility fractures followed by hip replacements, both L and R.
Is anyone familiar with this side effect of Trintellix?

SSRis including Trintellix trigger the release of epinephrine which increases the cells that break down bone and decreases the cells that build bone. Important for you to know is that continued use can impair the healing of those fractures. There may be a way to continue use https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8080057/ of the medication without harm.
Are you figuring all the out on your own?
There is no evidence that SAM-e an over-the-counter SSRI causes bone loss. It appears that SAM-e increased bone and joint strength.
If you did decide to stop Trintellix don't quit abruptly. 10mg is a moderate dose but sided effects can last several weeks. Be sue and talk to your prescriber. best wishes

@gently I am so glad I saw your post. I am on 20mg of Trentellix. I recently 3 weeks ago suffered a Trimalleolar fracture and ORIF procedure. I don’t ever recall hearing anything about bones cells and healing with Trentellix. My PCP is an Internist and he didn’t say anything neither did the orthopedist that did my surgery. I am going to really research it now. Thanks for your input I appreciate the information.
