Treatment options for colon cancer with mets to lung pleural lining?
My son was diagnosed stage 3C colon cancer approximately 1 year ago. He had colon reception surgery followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. Apparently the chemotherapy was not effective and the cancer had metastasized to the peritoneal cavity. He proceeded to have cyto reduction with HIPEC. He is approximately one month out from surgery and started having complications. It was discovered he had a right lung pleural effusion. A thoracentesis was done and the fluid came back negative for malignant cells. He continued to have issues so they did a thoracotomy with decortation and biopsy. The biopsy showed CRDx2 positive cells and cytokeratin positive cells. The oncologists recommended chemo again, but did not recommend any additional treatment options. Everything we asked about from surgery to radiation to immunotherapy and Target therapy she said was not an option. I'd like to know why these are not even considered since the chemotherapy originally did not work. We trying to get in to see another oncologist for a second opinion. Just trying to find out if anyone else has had similar cancer with metastasis and if the treatment they had was successful, as well as what kind of treatment it was? My son's insurance does not allow him to seek treatment outside of the state. I would like to change insurance companies but that is not an option to the new enrollment rolls around in December. Don't feel like he should wait to seek out new treatment options therefore would like to know options that I may discuss with the new oncologist. Someone please help me and provide me with some type of direction. I don't want to lose my son because I don't have tons of money to seek out the best care money can buy. Please and Thank you. A.K.

Dont le mondy syop you to seek whst you need to do for your son i will say you need a second and third opinion evety doctors is diffdrent but defitly gdt a 2 opinion
Looking for possible treatment available or any recommendations for my son's situation.
My son's story
My son is 32 years old, Charles was diagnosed about 2 years ago with UC placed on Xeljanz then on a repeat colonoscopy a mass was located at the small and large intestine junction. A colon resection was done, based on the pathology report it was stage 3c colon cancer. He received chemo every 2 week for 6 months. After that,his circulating tumor DNA began to rise again, he was sent to a peritoneal surgeon. We saw a surgeon at MUSC for Cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC on May 5th. During surgery and after there were some complications. My son had to have a thoracentesis done, 1.8 L removed which was negative for malignant cells. According to the follow up xray he still had trapped fluid, so he was admitted to the hospital for possible infection and chest tube. The thoracic surgeon did a thoracotomy decortication of the right lung with pleurx catheter placement. Biopsies were taken and showed CDX2 positive tumor cells and Cytokeratin 20 positive tumor cells. I can't see how the fluid was negative for malignant cells and the biopsy was positive.
Well to be honest I'm at my last thread of patience, because of all the issues we have had I'm not sure about his treatment options. My oncologist's treatment recommendations is primarily chemo, said surgery and radiation are not an option because it was in the pleural lining, wasn't sure if immunotherapy would be an option since he had UC, but he is in remission and not taking any drugs for the UC medication since he had an ileostomy done. She did not offer target therapy. She said we might consider a clinical trial if chemo didn't work.
We feel the oncologist that is caring for him is dragging her feet. She was suppose to be trying to help locate a trail, but we have not heard anything. I'm trying to locate a clinical trail he might qualify for since the chemo didn't work the first time. The catch is his insurance only covers the state of SC. He can't receive treatment in another state unless he pays out of pocket or it is an emergency. I think the insurance companies should cover it if the care you need is not available in the state you live. Can anyone help me?
