Treatment options after completing Tymlos

Posted by rileyf @rileyf, Dec 10 1:56pm

I had my first injection of Tymlos today. My spine T score was -3.2 and I was advised that anabolic medication was necessary. I am 64 and wondering what other people have done after completing Tymlos. I’m worried that I’m in for a lifetime of harsh drugs with awful side effects. Would love to hear from others with experience.

I started 4 weeks ago. What time of day did you get your first injection? Are you going to do them from now on? What did your doctor say was the follow-up plan? Mine said Prolia or Reclast or Fosamax. I am 65 and had a T Score of -4.8 in my spine. I had a fall nearly 10 years ago post menopause and broke my upper arm very easily from hanging on to an overhead handle.
An Endocrinologist or Rheumatologist?
How are you feeling?

My first injection was today but I plan on doing it at night going forward. Dr has me titrating up. No side effects today. I went to an obgyn who is know for her work in osteoporosis. Will see an endo next week. A detailed follow up plan hasn’t yet been discussed. How are you feeling after a month?

I'm now 20 months into Tymlos, nearing the end of the two-year treatment. My osteoporosis is now osteopenia. The plan is for me to take Fosamax for a year and then stop. (I told the doctor I didn't want any Reclast infusions.) We'll monitor afterwards and see how it goes. I continue to pay attention to diet and the proper exercise.

Some people do take drug "holidays" for a while, and then go back on a medication, and then maybe take another holiday. This is unfortunately something that will require lifelong monitoring, unless a magic pill is invented.

It a little confusing but I’m clicking until I see two arrows for the first three days and then will ramp up to the full 80 within the next ten days assuming I have no side effects.

My T-score is -3.3 and started Tymlos last month. It is for a 2 year treatment then something else to continue. I have absolutely no side affects. I'm 70 and currently have a back fracture (for the 3rd time) and have broken over 10 bones. I was ready to do something finally. Hoping it will improve immensely.

That is helpful. Each click from 0 is 10mcg. So 8 clicks from zero is an 80mcg full dose. Without having my pen right here I think that’s about half or 40-50 mcg.

Thank you! That was very helpful. The nurse I went to see couldn’t answer that question!
