Could be an infection. Difficult to distinguish burns from pustule I had which after it burst my infection was diagnosed. My prosthetic had to be removed, temporary plastic spacer put in, then six weeks of massive Pic line IV antibiotic injections, then wait months to be sure infection was gone before a new permanent prosthetic could be placed. Hopefully not, but if it is an infection, don’t try shortcuts to save the original prosthetic, just get on with the remove and replace protocol. Good luck luck.
Horrific. Too many variables we do not have. Your health picture: diabetic, obesity, allergies… did you wake up from surgery with these “ burns”? Some folks are allergic to the dressing put over incision.
Two years later- what is going on? Are you healed now?
Hello @rwilson, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @sbcarcht, @cathymw and others. I'm not a doctor but it certainly looks like an infection or possibly an metal allergy reaction. There are some discussions and member comments on TKR metal allergy if you want to see what others have shared - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=TKR+metal+allergy.
Are you able to get a second opinion from another surgeon or specialist?
If you're going to a wound care specialist, you're probably in the right place.
