Top of Foot, ankle and lower leg pain

It started with top of foot pain and ankle pain, then pain began in lower leg as well. This has been 2 years with no diagnosis. Exrays, MRI, and EMG show as normal. Anyone experience this and get a diagnosis. I was a walker everyday. Not sure who I should see next.

It can be referred pain. Three years ago I had left knee pain. Then I had my left hip replaced and lo and behold, the knee pain disappeared.

This year I have been having extreme pain when I step the wrong way on my heel area and a sharp pain runs down the leg. After thinking it was a result of radiating pain from my lumbar stenosis and then that it might be an actual injury problem in the foot/ankle area (I went to a foot/ankle surgeon for examination) My pain doctor, spine doctor, foot/ankle doctor and my knee surgeon all agreed that it was likely referred pain from my knee. 13 days ago I had the knee replacement surgery and among other changes my surgeon corrected my severe misalignment. Lo and behold, no more pain from stepping the wrong way.

Note that in both cases the cause was from somewhere else.

Can you travel for examination? If you are willing to travel and can get admitted, try the Mayo Clinic. It is probably the best facility I can think of to think creatively about diagnosing a difficult to diagnose condition.

Have you tried getting a massage or acupuncture or acupressure massage? I would try that and see if it helps you. Hope you feel better soon!
