Tooth pain while wearing Invisalign retainer after Reclast infusion
Hope someone can help!
Had Reclast infusion for the first time on April 1st of this year. I'm one of the rare unlucky ones who developed acute eye inflammation and blurry vision. I'm currently weaning off of prednisolone drops from taking it every hour when awake to every 8 hours.
In addition also have developed pain in upper right teeth when wearing my invisalign retainer at night which didn't happen prior to Reclast. Stopped wearing retainer because it was painful and read that having dentures makes osteonecrosis side effect more likely.
After several days of not wearing retainer have started having pain and tightness around my eye, cheekbone and jaw and down my neck. My dentist told me that my jaw may be shifting and to start wearing a previous retainer that my jaw had already conformed to. Felt immediate relief in pain and tightness in face and jaw, but pain returns when I take it off to eat, drink, etc. Does anyone know if there's a connection between wearing a retainer making it more likely to develop osteonecrosis? Does the fact I've already had a rare side effect make it more likely I'll get another one?

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with tooth pain. Sometimes when wearing an Invisalign retainer, teeth can feel sensitive if there’s been any recent change in the body or bone metabolism, which can occasionally happen after treatments like Reclast infusion. It might also be that the retainer is putting slight pressure on certain teeth. If the discomfort continues or gets worse, it would be a good idea to check with your dentist or orthodontist to make sure the fit is still correct and that there aren’t any underlying issues.
A clinic like Fix My Smile Toronto often advises patients to have their retainers and bite checked if pain appears suddenly, especially after medical treatments. Hopefully the pain settles down soon, but getting professional advice can really help ease the concern.
