Tomorrow is Surgery Day: NETs in pancreas tail

Posted by billyfeet @billyfeet, May 25, 2023

After a surprise CT Scan revealed a 2CM Neuroendocrine Tumor on the tail of my pancreas in February I am finally going in for surgery to remove it tomorrow. I have benefitted from the information gathered in the posts on this forum provided by the folks suffering from similar fates. I feel so much better prepared mentally for what lies ahead since joining this group. Thanks to all who participate in sharing experiences and knowledge. I hope to be able to provide some recovery experience posts as time goes by. Looking forward to having this behind me.

So the last few days have been trying……chills, fever of 100-102, general feeling of tired and out of it. I went to the ER because of the fever…..got prescribed an antibiotic and sent home. Taking Tylenolfor pain…..resisting getting into the OxyContin. If things do not get better I may have to. Seeing my surgeon tomorrow……..I wonder what pearls of wisdom she will shower me with.

Prayers go out to you. I have the same thing. Two doctors have given me 2 vary different surgical approaches, one keeps my spleen and attaches it to stomach blood vessls, the other will remove my spleen. Please let us know what your surgeon did and how you are fairing.

I hope your dr can help you get some relief. I am 5 weeks post surgery and still have quite a bit of pain. Has your dr recommended a protein drink if you are not getting enough food during the day? Sending you big hugs and prayers that you feel better 💜💜

So here I am 2 weeks post surgery. I spent 9 days in the hospital. The first 3 were horrible. But after that every day was less painful and better sleep. I ate small amounts of broth for a few days and then began to eat some solid food. Having a BM took 5 days…..and a suppository. Now I am having daily BM and just using senecot as a softener. After getting out of the hospital and coming home my sleep is 100X better! I sleep most of the night and a lot during the day. I walk a little….and can get up and down my stairs. I feel pretty good and have an appetite. I am very tired after just a small bit of walking. Still have a drain….about 70 ML/day outflow. Will see my surgeon in a few days for the first after discharge visit.

What pain meds are you currently taking at home? I may go home today. Pain is almost at nothing with what I a, getting in hospital. Forget the name….it is a NSAID….been off narcotics for days. How are you feeling at this point? Eating?

When I first went home I was on 5 mg Oxy for the first 16 days along with Tylenol. Then I switched to Tylenol and advil every 4 hours alternating. I did not like the Oxy but I’m not one for taking pain meds of any sort. I have a lot of pain because they had to make a large 5” incision to get the spleen out because it began to bleed and I also have fibromyalgia and lupus which make a small issue more dramatic 🤪. I’m glad you’re going home soon. Big hugs for a smooth recovery.
Eating is a very slow process. I started out with chicken broth and egg whites. Very bland diet. Then I added a piece of marble rye bread with very little butter. I am still on a bland diet but have eaten chicken, pasta, broccoli and mashed potatoes, small pieces of Colby jack cheese and applesauce.
