Tirads 4 moderately 'suspicious'

Hello to everyone, I just joined this site. I had a recent ultrasound thyroid result rated TI-RAD 4 and it's 1.8 cm. It's also listed as:
Solid
Hypoechoic
Taller than wide.

The positives: smooth margins and no calcifications.
The radiologist marked down on the report, to follow up with another ultrasound in a year. My own doctor thought that was reasonable.
Well... everything I've read seems to say that the size and the 'taller than wide' feature warrants a biopsy. I'm glad there were no calcifications or rough edges/margins, but I was concerned after I read that.
I phoned my doctor and the receptionist said that in Ontario (Canada) the guidelines have changed for thyroid biopsy criteria. If my result doesn't meet the criteria, they won't give me a biopsy. Still waiting for a call back from my GP. Should I ask for a referral to an endocrinologist?
I've read the stats on thyroid cancer rates, know that they're pretty low over all and that even nodules with these features can still be benign. But, I want to know. I don't need any more worry or stress in my life. Especially these days.
Thanks for reading!
