Thyroglobulin by RIA test results

Hello! I am a 62 female who was diagnosed with Stage 3 N1 Papillary Thyroid cancer. I have had a total thyroid removal last July (2023) andthe radioactive iodine treatment as well. My blood work for my Thyroglobulin antibodies is still very high as well as the RIA which is 7.9 My sonogram shows a small amount of tissue left. Is this normal? I get different answers from my endocrinologist and my oncologist.

Welcome, @mimi2maze. I'm tagging @carcosma on this discussion as she experienced a rising thyroglobulin after thyroidectomy and may have some experience to share with you. @lbrockme and @koh might also have some input about tests including thyroglobulin and radioimmunoassay (RIA).

Mimi, it's confusing when you get differing opinions from your specialists. What has been suggested? Did you undergo more testing?

Thank you! I had another sonogram and it shows traces of Thyroid tissue left. My oncologist is checking my blood work again in a month. So we’ll see.
First time with any kind of cancer and it’s scary to just sit and wait.

One of the hardest parts is the waiting and worrying, and the living with the always possibility. I find it mentally challenging to deal with at times. Try and live TODAY, and enjoy whatever joys today offers- I tell myself this as often as I can- to stay focused on NOW. The truth is , NOONE really knows what will happen to them on any given day until it does!! You ve got this!
