Problems months after colon resection surgery: What Helps?

Posted by joyce1 @joyce1, Feb 25, 2017

Three months after colon resection I had a severe stomach cramp this morning and have not had a bowel movement yet. This is the first time this has happened. So far things have been good.

Reassured by others experiences. I had section 2 months ago. Things have gone pretty well, I am almost worried now that I have been too active and maybe have herniated myself or some such, but maybe not reading some of the posts here.

All was going well, started off obviously with pain and the like and it felt like I had to break in a new stomach. Transitioned from low fibre to my normal high fibre diet (I am vegan) and like I say all was going well. the external wound took a while to stop seeping and the external swelling was still taking it's time to go down, but I felt I was getting stronger and was lifting moving heavy stuff, but not really heavy stuff the sort I would do if I was fully back. I am 53 and pretty fit and I fellt ok. Now suddenly out of the blue, I seem to have a lot of stomach pain, not just the usual crampy stuff but really quite painful sharp pain. It almost feels like I have gone back to the beginning of my recovery ins some ways. Spoke to the doc, reading between the lines, until I start getting constipated or vomiting, indicating a blocked bowel, there's not a lot they can do as it could be 'many things'. All seems to be ok though in terms of function, regualr bowel movements, a little too regular perhaps, but good solid stools and no diaarohea. A small amount of nausea, but that's all. Just worried that I may have herniated myself through stupidity, but reading these posts maybe what I am feeling is not that unusual.

Hey @johnmcgeechan, I was wondering if you've noticed any change in the pain and nausea over the past week? Might it have just been a strain?

Will it ever end? I think the same thing pretty much daily an I'm not the one with cancer. My husband is. I hope you never feel like you are complaining here. I haven't been here long but everyone here is wonderful and THEY GET IT!
prayers for you and your husband. Its wonderful to hear "WE TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER"

Had bowel resection 4 years ago. As long as I have one packet of Miralax and 2 stick packets of Fiber 2 Go in my coffee every day, I am mostly good. My empathy to those not doing as well.

Thank you.... I know there are so many out there a lot worse than me. I just need a break from all of this. My husband has a hernia that needs attention ...but now we have to wait on possible Gallbladder surgery.....we will be able to look after one another.

Thank you so much. It definitely eases worry when there are others to talk to that are going through the same symptoms. Thank you for your time. I'll keep you posted.

@theresak

Hello to all, I had a total of my Sigmoid colon and 4 extra inches removed on Feb. 4th. My surgery went fantastic as well as recovery. Almost no pain and my recovery has gone well. Yesterday I began having twinges in the lower left quadrant where the Sigmoid was. Today it is still there, wondering if this is normal or should I be concerned?

I have them all the time in same area. My doctor says it is nerve pain and it will eventually go away. I had the same thing done on Jan.27 I was not as fortunate as you in recovery I am just now starting to feel a little like my old self. Too much to talk about to type in. Just say it has not been an easy journey for me. Hope it goes away usually no a heating pad or moist heat helped me a lot ! Best wishes to you
