Has anyone had thermal breast scans and what was your thoughts?I know insurance won’t pay. I’m in Mass.

This is the first I've heard of thermography. I've read a few articles which all run along the same lines as this article from the Cleveland Clinic. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/thermography-vs-mammography-what-are-the-differences-and-is-one-better-than-the-other
It's intriguing, but not yet reliable. If you want to spend the time and money, it could prove interesting. Just don't use it as a substitute for more standard testing. Good luck.

The best way of testing Thermography, would be for someone who had been diagnosed with cancer with a mammogram, to get a thermal scan and compare.

Actually, Thermography is advertised as finding cancer before a mammogram can, by showing a hotter than normal area. So there should be Thermographys and mammograms taken every year, for years, to prove or disprove that theory. But who is going to pay for that? It would have to be up to individual women doing it on their own, paying for Thermography, and reporting the findings yearly on some site. Which is probably not going to happen. I just wish they had caught my cancer a lot sooner. Before I had breast amputation.

Hi @debkd, I hope you'll add your picture to your profile. 🙂

Thermography uses infrared technology to record different temperatures on the surface of the skin. Thermography is NOT approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for breast cancer screening because it detects only about half of breast cancers. In fact, the FDA has issued warnings and fines to health care providers who make misleading claims about thermography. Read more from Mayo Clinic here:

Tomosynthesis, or 3D mammograms, have become a best practice in women's health for breast cancer-detecting technology.
