Taking a lower dose of Fosamax for osteoporosis

Posted by alive @alive, Sep 1 6:56am

My doctor wants me to start taking 70mg of Fosamax for osteoporosis, but I hesitate because of be adverse reactions I read about on this forum. I asked the doctor to put me on 35mg. I haven’t heard from her yet, but hope she will agree. I am already on a lot of meds and feel very uneasy about adding another medication that can seriously affect me.

I have been on the once weekly 70 mg of alendronate sodium (Fosamax) for close to the 5-year recommended limit and have had no ill effects whatsoever. I was very afraid to start taking it initially and almost didn't because of the reported adverse reactions. I had a dexa after about 2 years of taking it and my bone density showed considerable improvement. Of course, everyone is different, but it has worked for me. Best wishes.

In my case, I have been on 70 mg of Fosamax (weekly) for one year with no notable side effects. Initially, 1 1-2 years ago, I was on the same dosage for four months but was temporarily taken off due to joint pain. After a few months, I went back on and am no longer experiencing any negative side effects. So far so good.

Until recently most Osteoporosis patients were prescribed fosomax/alendronate as their first medication . Now, it seems that thinking has changed. Anabolic ...tymlos, forteo and sometimes evenity...
first then another drug .... alendronate, reclast or prolia...to maintain gains
