Hello,
The above link takes you to many questions to consider. I suggest you take a look at these, and highlight the one's you might want to ask the prospective surgeon.
I had a T10 to Pelvis fusion--plus Sacroilliac Joint Fusions in May 2025, at 67. I was in chronic pain before surgery and surgery relieved that pain.
The biggest question regarding my surgery was my bone health as I had and have Osteoporosis. I had been on osteoporosis therapy for years, but my endocrinologist recommended that I switch to generic Forteo for a year prior to surgery to further enhance my bone strength. I will continue with the "Forteo" up to 24 months in entirety.
I have a neighbor that is 94 and he has intense back pain. Unfortunately, about 10 years ago his daughter talked him out of having surgery. He wishes that he would have done the surgery, and at his age, and with other health conditions, he is no longer a candidate for surgery.
I applaude you on seeking the care that you need.
Best Wishes!
Nadine
