Swelling after tkr

Posted by spinner2 @spinner2, Dec 5, 2024

Has anyone had unusual swelling issues (on inside and/or outside knee capsule) that greatly affects your quads and ROM. Have had it as a result of first TKR and now revision. Bending knee is near impossible because of swelling issues.

@spinner2 In addition to Cathy's suggestion to ice and elevate, if it has been a couple months since the revision, you might want to talk to your doctor and get an order for Physical Therapy specifically for lymphatic drainage. They can teach you some techniques to use once or twice daily in just a session or two.

How long since surgery?

4 weeks. My PT does a lot of massage. Everything seems to work very slowly.
Thanks

Full time job ain’t kidding! It’s hard work recuperating for sure.
6 months out post-op and I helped host a dinner for 60 people last night. I counted +15,000 steps for that new knee! Yay!
But my aching other knee… and that long rode ahead that I know I’ll need to take.

I highly recommend the ice machine. You have to fill rhe small cooler portion w ice. Then it has tubing that bring the cold air to a section that wraps around the knee w velcro, it reduces swelling & is excellent to relieve pain. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off all day long.

We used frozen large yogurt containers to keep the container cold. Wore it all night. So soothing and reduced swelling for sure.
