Surgical screws in tibia
I had a total knee reconstruction, not a replacement. My MPFL was replaced with a piece of my hamstring, bone marrow was harvested, holes were drilled in my knee cap, torn cartilage was cut out, the tibia was cut and moved over and secured with 3 screws. Recently there has been a new kind of pain in the tibia. I was wondering if anyone can describe how it feels if the screws are backing out? I am having them removed in a few months but this pain is constant and limiting mobility.

I should add the surgery was on 12/31/18 and it is now 8/4/19.
Hi @wndrwmn75 and welcome to Connect. That sounds so painful.
I would like to tag fellow Connect members @lrobertsmi and @tc125 as they have had pain while walking with tibial screws and may be able to offer you support.
Have you mentioned this to your doctor?
Thank you I appreciate that. No I haven't mentioned it yet I was trying to see if it's a "normal" feeling. They will make me come in which us difficult because of my schedule.
I am 68 years old and had a femur fracture right under my right hip about a year ago and have had a rod put in and pinned at the hip. Something isn't right....I am having a lot of pain if I move or try to do anything. The x-ray had showed the side screw or blade was sticking out about a half an inch and my surgeon said that is what is causing the pain but still does not want to remove the hardware for another 6 months. I also have a leg discrepancy of at least a half an inch which he says is normal so I have to have a lift in my right shoe. No more sandals, dancing, mowing my own yard or running through the sprinkler with my grandkids! Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?
That sounds horrible I'm so sorry for your struggle. My doc is waiting until almost a year after surgery to remove my screws because the bones should be fused by then. Your surgery is much more intense. I hope they get it fixed as soon as medically possible. Good luck to you.
Could I ask how old you are? I know we heal slower the older we get!
I have 3 titantium screens & mesh in my scull & 2 of the screws are hurting. My NS - I thought jokingly - said that he would just take them out! Do u know how they can take screws from bones without major problems? Tks

I would never presumably say how they would do that. It's probably been done before I would guess. I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you....maybe because you are a lot younger your Dr feels you are healed after a year but mine wants to wait to make sure.
