Struggling to walk.

So I finished 44 radiation treatments on May 21st 2025. Been on Orgovyx for about 11 months with a 9 week break because of coronary issues. The hot flashes are a nuisance but I’m dealing with it. Right now my worse side effect is aching legs that make it real tough to climb stairs or walk any distance. This is actually life changing and I’m not happy about it. Wondering if anyone here has had the same experience. My hope is that this is a temporary situation and after I’m off the Orgovyx I might return to normal. That being said I appreciate any replies and/or input. Wishing everyone here all the best doing battle with this Prostate cancer. God bless you all. Ken

Same effect, but different cause: in my case, I think the aches are more likely from the spinal compression and nerve damage than from 4 years of ADT, but since they happened/started at the same time, it's impossible to be sure.

About a year in, once my legs could bear weight again, the aches and pains started becoming a limiting factor. Getting prescription custom-fitted orthotics and compression stockings (not the cheap ones at the pharmacy) didn't eliminate the aches, but they made a big difference and helped me over the pain hump on the way back to mobility.

I had the same problem with walking due to taking a statin, Lipitor and another one just don’t work for me. Almost cripple me.

Not sure if you’re taking one, but it took a while before my doctor figured out what the problem was.

This may not be it, just another possibility.

ADT can cause muscle problems but they usually come on after you’ve been on it a long time and your muscle start deteriorating. If you can do some weight exercises with your legs, it may make a difference. Even isometric exercises can make a difference. You got to do them two or three times a week.

My opinion. I went to PT for my legs. Got a couple stretch bands and do those exercises 3-4 x / week. It helped. Today I m 77. Had no leg problems at age 74. FYI. Aging plays a factor too since I m off ADT for about 11 months now.

The first side effect I noticed on Orgovyx was decreased leg strength and knee stiffness. I call it Jello legs. I bought some resistance bands and a cheapo treadmill with a front handle for support. I try to do 2 miles a day. Some days more. Between that and some really easy resistance exercises, the difference is quite noticeable. Usually try to put on a good movie and just walk in front of the TV.

You made my day, especially about the cheapo treadmill. I am going thru the same side effects after 18 months of ADT and 44 radiation treatments. Slowly working my way back to normal, though excess body weight is not helping me.

I had my last Eligard 3-month shot back in June 2025 (for a total of 18 months ADT) and back in May 2024 I finished my 44 radiation treatments. I have exactly the same side effects you described, though in my case, I should have lost weight and didn't. From what I read, Orgovyx's side effects go away sooner than Eligard's or Lupron's. Thanks for sharing your experience.

RP at age 64 followed by 47 EBRT treatments and 24 months on lupron, abiraterone, and prednisone. Halfway through the ADT, I started suffering leg pain that got worse and worse. Long story short, I saw a variety of neuro specialists. They determined my case was “complicated.” Now I’m a year out from the end of my ADT, and things are a bit better, although I still have bilateral neuropathy in the legs. Things that have helped: gabapentin, physical therapy, foot-ankle orthotic and walking sticks for longer walks. At its worst, a quarter-mile walk on a flat surface was difficult. Now I walk 2-3 miles at a faster pace and on steeper inclines. One thing that gave me considerable pain relief and still does is cycling. I think it helps to move the muscles and get the blood flowing without the stress of full weight bearing.

@juanmoczo I just got my final 6 month Eligard shot last month. Same as you, it was started just before radiation. My weight before starting was 165. It's now about 180. Pissin' me off! HAHA And I walk 3 miles a day and eat the right stuff. Doctor pretty much said I won't lose the weight until the Eligard is out of my system. I sure as heck hope so!!!! 🙂

I just turned 77. I was on Degarelix (shot form of Orgovyx) and Abiraterone w/ pred. for about 2.5 years. I had to stop Silver Sneakers after the first year because of loss of strength and stamina. I finally stopped everything July 1, because my glutes and hamstrings were so weak and sore with standing or extended walking. I have pushed myself to walk ... trying to improve ... and it makes me feel better but no increase in stamina. My times for the .87 mile path I follow have remained about the same and I'm not really ready to increase the distance or frequency. But, otherwise I feel just fine and so far my PSA remains undetectable. Of course my testosterone is still in the teens.

@jeffmarc I thought when my T started rising from pretty much nothing, I'll be able to burn fat much easier.
