Hi @jah21, I moved your message to the Joint Replacements group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/joint-replacements/
There are several discussions related to knee regeneration and replacement, such as:
- Stem Cell Therapy for Arthritic Knees: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/stem-cell-therapy-for-arthritic-knees/
- Alternatives to knee replacements: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/alternatives-to-knee-replacements/
- Stem cell vs TKR: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/stem-cell-vs-tkr/
But I believe your question differs slightly in that you are looking for people who have had stem cell therapy to help support success of a knee replacement. Have I got that right?
Yes. Done at time of surgery
No, stem cell therapy instead of hip replacement surgery
I had both knees replaced last year. I'm 69 y/o, former marathoner and still very active at the gym. If there was a legitimate, tested procedure for using stem cells to, I assume, replace lost or damaged cartilage, I would have been interested.
Problem is, it's not just the damaged or missing cartilage. The knees are usually full of arthritis spurs and these need to be removed.
Anyway, if it sounds too good to be true.......
