If it's deemed necessary by your doctor, then yes. It also depends on where the surgery is being done, neck, lower spine, upper spine? I've had surgery on my neck on 2 different occasions, about 1 1/2 years apart, and recovery does take a while, but everyone reacts to a procedure like this differently.
