Light headedness 5 months after spinal fusion only when walking

@teddybear44 Welcome to Connect. I love the handle you chose! We do have a lot of members talking about spinal fusions. I am a spine surgery patient myself with a cervical fusion of C5/C6. If you could share what type of fusion you had, perhaps we could connect you with other members discussing their recoveries from a similar surgery. Have you discussed the light headedness with your surgeon's team?

You don’t offer much info in order to receive suggestions? Do you become dizzy upon standing before you walk or only upon taking steps? Do you consume enough fluids? Do you have any blood pressure issue? Do you take any anti hypertension meds?

Thank you! I have explored many issues with doctors already. I have had a complete blood panel done which ruled out anemia and other possibilities. I am only light headed when walking....not sitting, standing or getting up. Have been on blood pressure meds for some time.... beginning well before my surgery....no problems previously. BP is controlled ( I monitor most days) Surgeon said it might be residual anesthesia effects but it has been 5 months. I drink 8 - 10 glasses of water per day. I am sorry for lack of info before! Thank anyone for insights.

Have you been able to check your BP during these episodes? Might this be a symptom of cardiac disease occurring when you put demand on your heart? Stress test?

REPLY

I do have a cardiologist appointment in a couple of weeks but I will check my BP when it happens. I did have a basic cardiac evaluation before my surgery.

I also get lightheaded or dizzy, but when I try to look up. I'm fused from C2-T2 and it's hard to look up. I don't have an answer for this, but yes it can happen

How long has this been going on for you ...since surgery when? Do doctors have insight?
Thank you.

I am so sorry. My fusion was in the lumbar region, so I have not had any issues with shoulder or back.
