Has anyone had the endoscopic sphincterectomy procedure? Experience? Results? Thanks.

Hi @esikora

I am not familiar with with Sphincter of Odii dysfunction. I am interested to know more from you about what it is and how you expect this procedure to help. I am tagging others that have mentioned the condition and endoscopic sphincterectomy procedure, hoping they will be able to provide input that will help you: @techchick1025 , @blaise56 , @milagrospierson and @misspeach

Are you considering having an endoscopic sphincterectomy to address sphincter of odii dysfunction?

This condition is when the bile duct between the pancreas and small intestine becomes inflamed and the sphincter spasms. The endodcopic procedure introduces a small wire that snips the sphincter , relieving the pain.
My daughter was diagnosed with this and had the procedure several weeks ago. So far so good.
I posted my question when she was deciding whether or not to hate the procedure. It can be complicated.

Hello @esikora,

I'd like to join @jlharsh in welcoming you to Mayo Connect. I'm interested in your post, because while Sphincter of Odi (SOD) can happen after gallbladder surgery, it is often not missed by doctors who are unfamiliar with this diagnosis. Often patients deal with the symptoms, with no relief in sight. In addition to the members that @jlharsh mentioned in her post, here is a link to all of the posts that mention SOD:

Did your daughter find relief after her surgery?
