Somebody Please Help.

SOS. I live in Canada, and my mother got recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized. It’s now been two months of waiting for appointments and being in and out of hospitals, and her cancer hasn’t been treated seriously. The hospitals here don’t care and we are now 2 months in and still no treatment plan or a care in the world. I need someone to help my mom and give her a treatment plan so somebody please tell me how I can get her into Mayo Clinic. I will leave the next day with her. I need a doctor to help her ASAP. Please. Somebody help me.

@marquesdi, welcome. Yes, Canadians can request appointments without a doctor referral. You can fill out the online application on behalf of your mother. See the link for international patients and further information here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Marquesdi, is your mom able to travel? May I ask what province your mom lives in?

Yes she’s able to travel and she lives in Ontario. Would I be able to call and get an appointment like that?

You can either fill out the online form or call the Mayo Clinic location of your choice in Florida, Arizona or Minnesota to arrange a time to speak with an appointment coordinator. The coordinator will work with you to gather all the necessary information about your mother, including her medical history, her diagnosis, medical records, as well as insurance details. This information will be reviewed by our oncology experts and an appointment may be offered according to availability. It certainly is worth calling to find out more.

I'm sorry to hear that your mom is having challenges getting care closer to home. There are several excellent cancer facilities in Ontario in many of the major urban centers like Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton and elsewhere.
