Small Intestine Resection
Hello Everyone I hope ALL is well today. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here. I’ve been through a lot health wise but I’m still ALIVE and WELL as to be expected, living with Stage 4 Liver Cancer. I just wanna ask Has anyone had a Small Bowel Resection and if so What’s the recovery ❤️🩹 to be expected. I’m having some diarrhea, some abdominal pain sometimes associated with nausea. At times sometimes over eating or well being full from meals be difficult sometimes to pass gas or belch. Although liver resection is not an option for me but to relieve me of some these symptoms I am having due to primary tumor in my small intestine or bowel however you wanna say it. Resection is an option to ease some of the discomfort that I be experiencing. I have been blessed going into my treatment of four (4) years 2/10/2025 taking the Lanreotide injection every 28 days. My Praise to the Glory of God!!!

Hello there. I had a resection of my ileum a few years ago to remove a primary carcinoid tumor. I didn’t have any problems recovering from surgery. I’ve learned that if I eat a large meal, it can cause bloating a diarrhea at times. But just eating as I choose, I am still doing well. I might have a brief episode of diarrhea about once every six to eight weeks. These can be painful, but are bearable. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much I have a Neuroendocrine carcinoid also but thank for reaching back out.

@cu2, have you been scheduled for surgery?
Hello and thank you glad to be back. Not scheduled yet I have an appointment at Emory Winship Cancer Institute here in Atlanta, Georgia/02/25 11:30am my evaluation to consider it. That fact that you are already on Lanreotide should help in your recovery if you do have a resection. Usually with Neuroendocrine cancer, surgery is a first consideration. That is not always the case though. Your team may suggest other treatments for you. You or may not be a candidate for PRRT as an example. Best of luck to you.
My resection was 3 months ago. I still have bloating. My abdomen feels “swollen”. The surgeon says it’s all part of healing. I initially lost weight. 10 pounds before surgery and five pounds afterwards. My appetite is normal now. I don’t have diarrhea. But I have a small amount of pain on the right side of my abdomen.
I hope you’re doing well.
Hi, I have had a resection in my small bowel 12/24. It took about a year to feel better. Had a hernia surgery about 5-6 months out. The combination certainly slowed recovery. Had PRRT after that and just finished it 1/25. Waiting on scans this month to see how we did with prrt. Also been on lanreotide right through it all. The surgery for me was very important as it removed dying areas of intestinal tract and two primarys that were undetected until they went in because of the small size of them. I feel much better today than i did prior to surgery. Also on Creon and Xermelo to help with digestion and jeeping serotonin levels down. Lost about 40 pounds and since have gained ten back. Been on a low fat diet throughout. Just beginning to add some fat back now to my diet.
I had a small bowel resection for NETS cancer, age 62. Was hospitalized for 4 days & discharged. I was walking the hospital floor pushing IV pump the night of surgery. Best advice is to get up & walk, makes recovery much faster. Belly was tender for quite a while but after 2-3 weeks I felt fine. Good luck to you!
