Skin biopsy
Hello! I got such wonderful responses to my question about EMG that I’m going to ask another- what about skin biopsies on legs and feet? How “uncomfortable” is that? I’m such a nervous Nellie, and it really helps to get the groups input! Thank you!

Hello again,
I’ve had a skin punch biopsy and it didn’t bother me much. In my case, the provider took two skin samples both from the outer side of the right leg. One was a bit above the ankle and the other above the knee. They will give you instructions on how to take care of the 2 areas after the procedure. It wasn’t a big deal for me.
Hope this helps.
Take care and have a serene day,
gus

1 ReactionI had skin biopsy recently and it did hurt.3 punches were made one in the shin area another a little above the knee and the third half way through the thigh. The one on shin are hurt a lot and it’s now about 13 weeks still that one is hurting. That maybe because she did it right on the most vulnerable site of my shin pain. It’s now 13 weeks and one part of the result is yet to come. But everything that came was negative but my pain is unbearable. The doctor gave up saying there’s nothing they can suggest as everything came negative. So much for an advanced tertiary care center such as Johns Hopkins!

3 ReactionsHello,
So sorry about your pain. But as with everything, different people react differently. However, if the site is still painful after 13 weeks, you might want to call where you had the biopsy and let them know.
I wish you the best.
Take care and have a serene weekend,

1 Reaction@gus0557 Thank you. Maybe I’ll contact them and see what they have to say.
I had a skin punch biopsy last fall, and I didn't find it too painful while it was being done nor in the days when it was healing. I had it done to test for Parkinson's, which we were able to rule out. It did indicate small fibre neuropathy, so another piece of the puzzle added. Bottom line—I have very positive feelings about the experience, feeling the test was well worth it. Good luck!

1 ReactionThank you!
I had the SynOne testing done for Parkinson’s
concerns. I chose to have my Dermatologist perform
the test since I knew he had lots of experience doing
minor skin surgery with 3mm punch specimens.
The kit is provided from the lab. I healed quickly as
they took extra care to suture the tiny round wounds.
Lab was sent out FedEx overnight to the lab arrived
next day prepaid. I received results after 21 days turnaround needed for multiple delicate lab procedures.
I was fortunate to rule out alpha-synuclein and other small fiber diseases..

1 Reaction@sbelur I'm surprised they took a biopsy from the shin as the skin is pretty thin there and doesn't get good oxygen supply. So for those reasons, takes forever to heal. Have they done the nerve conduction studies as well? I'd see a new neurologist & take your records with you. You shouldn't hurting like this without answers.

Thanks so much for your note. Nerve conduction tests also done snd were negative. But my pain is terrible. Have seen atleast 4 neurologists . The final one being Johns Hopkins’ specialist neurologist ☹️
