SI Joint Pain / neuropathy when walking / harrington rod 51 years old

I had a 60 degree curve in 1973 when I was 16 when they did the surgery to straighten it to 10 degrees and I got my 12 inch harrington rod. So I am a slightly off with one hip higher than the other. I managed ok most of my life and had horses which was fine. I rode 6 days a week but only hard workout 2 days. My last died 2 years ago ( at 34 ) and I can't afford another with prices. ANYWAY, I like being active. Walk and hike with my dog daily. Tylenol helped when needed. The past 6 months have gotten very bad in lower back and hip. Walking for 5 minutes and I'm in tears from pain and neuropathy down my leg. The chiropractor was helpful until 2 months ago as he would put the SI joint back. It doesn't help anymore but for maybe a day. And my spine below the rod is compressed with a few bone spurs. I saw an ortho doc who said try PT. I did for 6 weeks and it got worse. I got lidocan patches - hardly help. Gabopetin but only at night because I am still working and it makes me sleepy. Lots of vitamins - turmeric, fish oil, etc.Corosone shots helped a short time but not great. Pregnosone for a week helped a little. BUT I WANT FIXED NOT JUST PAIN MANAGEMENT. Doctors say it will just get worse. This group sounds like we are in the same boat. Suggestions please? thx Bonny in Pittsburgh

I am sorry for your suffering and loss of your beloved horses. Horses were always my favorite animal growing up but never owned one. I just have a mini zoo of dogs and cats now.😉

What does your recent MRI show of your lumbar spine/sacrum and hips/pelvis? If you haven’t had them done recently, it would be good to get them updated.

What levels did they straighten with the rods?

Your symptoms sound like spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and neurogenic claudication. You may also want to check for soft tissue gluteal tendinopathy and hamstring tears plus nerve compression.

Have you been to a neurologist for EMG/nerve conduction studies of your lower limbs? If not, that might help pinpoint the level of nerve root compression.

Thank you - this is very interesting and I will get on it. They did xrays in January but no MRI. I have to find a doctor that is on board with this. I did go to Cleveland Clinic 2 weeks ago and they just looked at tose xrays and said find pain management and non surgical spine doctor. Appreciate your info !!!
