Shoulder surgery and occipital neuralgia

I must have a shoulder replacement. Is there anything special that the surgeon and the anesthesiologist need to do because of the occipital neuralgia?

@lakesofdelray, I think that would be an excellent question for you to start with when you have the surgery consult with the surgeon and care team. It might even be better to call your surgeon or care team and ask before your consultation so you can be better prepared if needed.

Have they given you any PT or exercises to do prior to the shoulder replacement?

Just got pt. Will start next week. Difficult when you don’t have clear diagnosis

Just my own experience, but when I was first injured I told the surgeon that it was my shoulder that was responsible for the symptoms. He disagreed and walked me to the shoulder surgeon who also told was my neck. I went back and forth between both offices several times and was still told me it was my neck. ( my neck surgeon had the personality of a rock I might add. ) there comes a time when you have to become your own advocate! In reality we’re just a stat or a number. Definitely get a clear diagnosis of what you’re dealing with before they start cutting……David

I'll jump in with one comment. When you are dealing with possible neck surgery, see a neurosurgeon for any neck surgery needed.
