Shoulder arm pain while on steroids

Posted by abbeyc @abbeyc, May 30 8:22am

hello
Has anyone developed any new strange shoulder/upper arm, tendinitis type pains or injuries while using long term Prednisone ?
Is anyone aware if this can be a Prednisone side effect?

I am tapering off Prednisone after 2.5 years treatment for PMR. As I reduce to 2mg new unexplainable shoulder arm tendon type pains are emerging.

Thank you.

As wonderful as steroids are ( I have to take an occasional taper), long term use can cause bone loss, broken bones & osteoporosis.

Praying that is not the case for you and this is an easy fix. Blessings....

Yes thank you. I would not say steroids are wonderful 😉.
This is not bone damage. It’s muscle damage.
Getting to the bottom of it hopefully.
Thank you

abbeyc, I'm so sorry. I misread your malady from steroids

Praying for you right now and I wish you the best!

I actually was just adding a little humor. All good.
Thanks for your comments.

My shoulder arm pain while on steroids is osteoarthritis. I am about to have my 4th joint replacement due to arthritis. I can tell I am having PMR pain when no pain pill helps except increased prednisone. So sad such a miracle pain reliever has such bad side effects.

Wow! So you think you got the osteoarthritis from the steroids?
I’m waiting to see my general doctor in July to bring all this up and ask if steroids could be causing all this.
Meanwhile I’m almost down to 2mg. My Rheumatologist wants me to stop the Prednisone quickly within a months time or less. (Because she doesn’t think I have PMR anymore). But I’m worried about reducing that fast. I wonder if a fast reduction when at such a low dosage is okay if the PMR is gone. She says it is. I suppose I could try and always go back up in dosage if I have issues.

I do not think prednisone caused my osteoarthritis. I had it 15 years before I was diagnosed with PMR and started on prednisone.
