SFPN swollen hands and whole body inflammation

Posted by lym @lym, Jun 13 7:21am

I have ideopathic SFPN. Does anyone have swollen fingers/hands and whole body inflammation? I also have neuropathy in my feet. Symptoms are getting worse every day. What do you do or take to relieve the pain and swelling besides medication? Thanks

Hello @lym, I also have small fiber PN but I only have numbness and some tingling, no pain. Because I also have polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) which is currently in remission, I try to be conscious of what I'm eating that may cause inflammation. I do take turmeric capsules daily, one in the morning and one in the evening which I think helps some. Here's an article with some ideas that may help while you wait for others to respond.

Have you looked into any dietary changes that might be help lessen inflammation and pain?

I just started taking ProNervium a Chinese mushroom supplement that is supposed to regenerate neurit connectors. They say I should feel the difference in a few days. My feet are numb and my neurologist only has gabapentin to offer! Will get back on this. Lou Anselmo

Yes yes me...I have been dealing with this issue for some time now and yes getting worst daily...it started with a thumb and for over a month it's been my whole hand and fingers and being with both hands....I didn't know there were medications for this but it is very painful, can't make a fist even and I do wear the support braces on days that it's really bad just for the support and does seem to help....

If your doctor would give you a round of steroids, that might calm things down while you discuss a long-term solution. After trying all the usual neuropathy medications, my neurologist and I are going a different route with first Tegretol, which worked great, and now switching to Lamictal.
