Severe Sciatica pain
My pain has become somewhat crippling; makes me not want to even walk. I'm wondering if anyone has found relief for the pain. I have several skeletal issues, but I'm willing to TRY almost anything. I am 81; weigh 94 pounds, but am reasonably active. I rarely go out except for church every Sunday. I cannot stay on my feet but a short time, then I have to sit, which also causes pain. Any help will be SO much appreciated.

@dorma: Hate to say this but I am in an identical situation! Mine started about 2months ago while doing a mild stretch in my 2x week yoga class. Pain progressed to where you are now… can’t take more than 10 steps without doubling over with pain (right side). Like you I am desperate for a light at the end of this black tunnel! I feel there is an answer out there… please help us! Bette
If you go to a pain clinic they'll have ideas. If you send us MRI results, we'll have many suggestions. There usually is relief to be found. If you don't have MRIs that would be the first step, so that you don't make anything worse.
@dbamos1945 you sound muscular and might start with medical massage.
@dorma what makes you say sciatica. Is the pain single sided or bilateral.
Both of you might find relief in quick, simple injections.
But if either of you are breaking bones, that has to come to attention first.
Our pain clinic is a joke. They offer NO help at all; only Tramadol, which does nothing at all for real pain. No suggestions, exercises or anything. The injections do nothing for me; tried several over the years, in back and hips. I HOPE to find a much better one soon. My MRI is 2-3 years old, so I'm sure I need a newer one. Thanks for your reply.
My husband had awful sciatica pain. He had one spinal steroid injection that was somewhat helpful and another about a month or two later that has relieved his pain entirely for the past two years. I hope this helps in your search for help
My MRI showed my sciatica was due to spine pinching nerve to leg and toes. Could not have fusion due to Osteospirosis. After 2 years of misery ( pain meds, epidurals) they did a laminectomy ( small carving out around spine where the nerve comes out. I had to find a Neurologist . Traveled 5 hours away to have surgery. Out of Hospital one day immediately had relief. I know the pain and hopeless feelings you have. Fight for the right Dr. I went Through 4!
God bless
@redlo & @dorma & y’all: Learned more that I thought existed! Thanks for caring about another human in pain. I’m grateful!
I had my MRI last week and it showed “small stable sacral Tarlov cyst” at low lumbar vertebrae. Will meet with my Int.Med Doc to hear his evaluation soon. The pain remains samo with perhaps more tingling numbness in feet and intense pain in calf when I try to walk. As of yesterday, I’m using my walker to sit and roll around… sometimes I get a push. It’s better than lying here! It helps brain to socialize! Hope there is a solution other than the surgical suite! 🙁 Bette
I spent 7 years looking for the answer to my prays. I had chronic pain 24-7. I couldn’t sit in one position for more than a couple minutes. At that I was always in motion. I was referred to Arizona Pain Doctors. A miracle in that I can do about everything now.
I will hurt in lower back if I overdue it but that will be taken care of as soon as I am done at the Mayo.
Oh, there was no pain and no surgery involved.
This sounds like good news. I've read about having a Tarlov drained and filled with fibrin glue.
I'm assuming they are in Arizona...I live in Alabama. Doctors here leave a lot to be desired; a lot.
@gently & @dorma & y’all: I will let you know how docs evaluate this sacral Tarlov cyst. My MRI Abd/Pel w/wout Evoist contrast was dealing with NET tumor treatment results in liver & small intestine/stomach. The radiologist reported the lumbar abnormality noted as an addendum. Tech told me I would need a MRI specific to lumbar region, so they may want another MRI?
My body has produced many varied cysts, so I agree that the resolution of pain seems doable with the aspiration and glue procedure. I am grateful yet still scared of that surgical suite!!! Bette
