Severe chronic back pain
Severe chronic back pain…I’ve suffered for years and have been told different things about my back pain, I was told taking weight off would help ive last 50 pounds and no relief if anything it’s getting worse. I’m having a hard time doing basic things without being in severe pain. I’ve done massage Acupuncture physical therapy serval times. Now I’m just frustrated about even going to the doctor cause nothing changes. It hurts to even walk and my big toes on both feet are numb. What should I do I’m losing hope and I don’t know how much more pain I can handle. Please help

Hi shooshoo,
Have you had X-rays...MRI?
Any other tests to assess your spine?
@shooshoo7073
I hear you about having back pain limiting what you can do.
Do you have pain/weakness/numbness from lower back down to feet? Do you have any symptoms in your neck/upper back/arms/hands?
How long have you had these symptoms and did you ever have an accident or injury/fall?
You need to find a reputable and highly reviewed orthopedic spine specialist and get updated MRIs of cervical and lumbar spine. It would be good to see a neurologist to have an EMG/nerve conduction study of your upper and lower limbs and possibly small fiber neuropathy skin punch biopsy.
It sounds like you have compressed spinal cord/nerve roots/nerves and possibly stenosis/degenerative disc disease and neurogenic claudication.
You need to review the MRI report in detail as well as get a report for your EMG.
Have you worked with an orthopedic pain management center for treatment options like spinal injections? Have you tried Salonpas nerve pain patches or capsaicin nerve pain creams on your back?
I’ve had 3 major low back surgeries. Hip replacement as well. All my joints need replacing. Find yourself a spine pain interventionist. Or a good orthopedic or neurosurgeon.
You need x rays and a MRI.
Most likely they’ll suggest a series of injections. Either cortisone for inflammation or a pain reliever. If that doesn’t provide relief the next step is getting pain nerve ablations.
The Dr cauterizes the pain nerves that go to your brain. If you have extensive damage to your back the next step is a spinal stimulator implant.
It’s a life changer. It has eliminated at minimum 80% of my lower back pain. Physical therapy is an absolute must. You have to strengthen your core. It’s a forever thing you must do at minimum 3 days a week.
I have pain in my lower back area, but it's mostly around the top of or above the pelvic bone on the right side. It feels inflamed like someone is tearing the muscle or ligament from the bone. Nothing seems to help. Walking aggravates it. Walking uphill is even worse. When I go to Mayo at Subway level and get off the elevator from Damon I dread the walk to the Hilton building.
Yes I’ve had all the different test for about the last 15 years. I was told I have Degenerative bone disease and fibromyalgia and the disk have very little to no cushioning left, and still i can’t get anything done. They make me feel like I’m crazy and it’s not as bad as I’m saying.
Yes my legs and feet feel like they don’t work well sometimes and the big toes on both feet are numb.
I have state insurance and they won’t cover pain management for some reason.
I was told that I have digestive bone disease and fibromyalgia.
I have had injection and they mad the pain worse and I’ve tried the patches and I can’t seem to get any relief.
The only thing I’ve ever been given is Prednisone and muscle relaxers and they don’t work anymore at all for any kind of relief. I’ve had injections and what ever they gave me made the pain worse.
I’m only 51 and I have to use a walker sometimes cause the pain is so bad when I walk.
I hear you about even walking I have to use a walker sometimes and I’m only 51. I can’t sit forward or bend over or anything without hollering in pain. I don’t work anymore and I have cats and dogs and it’s becoming difficult to do my daily chores and stuff. I can barely clean the cat boxes.
I’ve lost about 50 pounds and would like to be able to do more and I’d love to be able to play with my grandkids.
I’m really at my wits end
