Seeking List of Treatments

Posted by bobc2 @bobc2, Sep 18, 2023

Does anyone know of a list of meds tried/used by doctors for idiopathic polyneuropathy? So far doc has said 200mg 4/day Magnesium Glycinate, 600 mg 2/day Alpha Lipoic Acid, and 100 to 300 mg Gabapentin at bedtime. My symptoms have rapidly increased in the last 8 weeks.

Welcome @bobc2, I'm sorry to hear your symptoms have rapidly increased in the last 8 weeks. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list of treatments here - https://www.foundationforpn.org/treatments/, along with a list of commonly prescribed medications for nerve pain here - https://www.foundationforpn.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Medications-Updated.pdf.

Have you discussed the increase in pain since starting the treatment with your neurologist?

@bobc2 hi Bob
I promise you that everyone here understands what you are experiencing.

If you can take more Gabapentin, it should help. That and Lyrica are the only drugs that can help with the pain of polyneuropathy.

I am on the max dose of gabapentin (3600mg) and am also ramping up to 60 mg of Tuloxitine (Cymbalta). I still have neuropathy symptoms in my feet and ankles but the meds do help.

I’ve started taking NueroPure 2x daily. Use Absorbine Jr Horse linament at night.
Works better for me than ANY drug!!
Will probably always have numbness, but I have 0 pain.
Able to walk, and all other activities (swimming is best) and drive just fine (a five speed manual).
God Bless you on your journey!!

Thank you John, I am very grateful.
Such good info. I see my neurologist tomorrow.
The websites focus a lot on pain. I don't have pain as much as loss of feeling and feeling/seeing small points of calf muscle and other muscles randomly pulse.
Any further thoughts?
Bob

Thank you, Tom.
How long did it take you to get to 3600 mg dose?

@readyman1 I was curious about the NeuroPure so I did a search for a non-sponsored, secondhand, unbiased review and couldn’t find one. Each site was basically a promotion for the product so the “reviews” were, of course glowing.
I am very happy that it works for you. I would like to see second hand reviews. If you know of a reputable site I can look at, please let me. Thank you.

Neuropathy can have a lot of different symptoms and along with other autoimmune related conditions. Wondering if the twitching (muscles randomly pulse) might be benign fasciculation syndrome (BFS). There is another discussion where members have shared information that might be helpful:
