Gluten- and dairy-free options at/near Mayo Clinic campuses?
I am gluten and dairy free. Are there plenty of food options at the Scottsdale cafeteria or should I bring my own snacks.
Thank you.

Hi @katertucker. To be safe you may want to take some of your own snacks along if you have a special diet. However, since Mayo has patients from all over the world with health issues and diet restrictions, they’re generally mindful to have food options available.
What you could do is call the General number for Mayo-Scottsdale. I’m sure they could link you to the cafeteria for a direct answer.
That number is 480-301-8000
I hope you get an answer. When is your appointment?
I have Celiac disease and will be going to Jacksonville for treatment. Does anyone have any suggestions for safe, gluten free places to eat?
Does the Mayo cafeteria have safe, gluten free options?
Hi there- I don’t have Celiac, but I need to drastically limit gluten. This means that cross-contamination isn’t really an issue for me though.
The main Mayo cafeteria (which honestly, is more like a restaurant—it’s gorgeous and the food is really good! It’s just been renovated and they have one of those giant pizza ovens) has gluten free options. My go-to was grilled salmon and you can choose two sides. I always picked grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. There are also salads and soups that are probably gluten free.
If you want something more casual and takeaway, the Zest cafe had a separate section for gluten free baked goods and snacks that were clearly labeled. All the staff I talked to were knowledgeable and helpful. To my surprise, I found a gluten free coffee cake there that was very good.
And there’s a full-service Starbucks (egg bites? Protein boxes?).
I stayed in Jacksonville Beach, about 15 minutes away from the Mayo campus, and there are many restaurants. I went often to Taco Lu—they are very accommodating with gluten free. There’s a separate menu and they can usually adapt anything you want on their menu to be gluten free and they say so in the menu. They will even make gluten free tortilla chips for you if needed; I think the regular they serve for free are gluten free but prepared in the vicinity of flour so one time they offered to give me gluten free chips.
Shrimp Shack is really good and inexpensive but cross contamination may be an issue even though you can get everything grilled instead of fried.
There is also a Whole Foods with hot bar if all else fails? I do think you’d be alright on Mayo’s campus and honestly the food is really good and in a gorgeous setting.
(Food is part of my travel whether it’s for medical or other purposes if you can’t tell lol.)
@meeshodge, did you see the helpful post from @emo? Getting tips from a traveling foodie is the best.
I'm tagging a few other Mayo Floridians like @travelgirl @ees1 @nancy82415 @jedikaiti @beatitudes who may be able to offer further suggestions.
I did not

Great information! Thank you so much! I was able to DL the Gluten Free For Me app and found some really promising restaurants!
Please report back some of your favorites.
I just wanted to follow up. I was able to find a few places that offered Celiac safe gluten free options.
Epick Burger was absolutely amazing. They even have GF Beer battered onion rings! They have a dedicated fryer as well.
McFlamingo is totally gluten free and they have healthy options. Food was very good. Nice selection.
The Bearded Pig was a huge disappointment. They have a few options, but was not a fan of the meats. I did not even eat it.
Relish Burgers was great! An old fashioned burger and fries! Dedicated fryer. They get fresh toppings and condiments when requested.
Bold Bean coffee shop was such a cute place. Lots of options. Just let them know GF.
Any gluten free options locally in Minnesota? Maybe door dash options? I won’t have a car but I have been gluten free for almost 11 years (due to an allergy) and worried how to eat when I’m there. I’ve also never used door dash before, lol, so any tips in navigating being gluten free while there would be appreciated. (My appts will be in the Gonda building if that helps. Not sure where on campus the cafe is or if it’s worth the walk since walking over 15 minutes is an issue for me) thanks!
