SAVI Scout prior to lumpectomy
I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer in May. Surgeon put me on letrozole, which I started in June, to shrink the tumor, expecting to then have lumpectomy in 6-9 months. It’s now been two months since starting letrozole and I have appointment tomorrow which will include insertion of SAVI Scout to make surgery more effective in ensuring complete removal with one surgery. From what I’ve read, the SC is usually inserted from a week up to 30 days prior to surgery—which means surgery could occur in about 3 months from start of letrozole. Has anyone else had this procedure? TIA

I was diagnosed with breast cancer about three years ago. The SAVI Scout was inserted a week or so before lumpectomy. It was painless for me. I'd been on letrozole for about two months before that. No side effects from letrozole, which is fortunate. Do you have particular concerns about the SAVI Scout? It seems to be standard before a lumpectomy.
I had read that the SAVI Scout was typically placed within 30 days of surgery, whereas I was told my surgery would be in 6-9 months after taking letrozole. I’ve only been on it for two months so was curious about time lapse. How long was yours in before actual surgery? Thank you and glad to know you got along well!
Just a few weeks before surgery. I'm guessing that it should be ok being placed some months before, but you can ask the surgeon about the timeline if it seems unusual.
