Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG)
I was 33 years old when Ruth Ginsburg became a Supreme Court Justice. At first I didn't know what to think of her. But over the decades she became a role model and mentor to me. I've watch documentaries and movies about her and in those last years I read her descent opinions. But what made the greatest impression on me was her ability and determination to keep cancer at bay. RBG was diagnosed in 1999 with colon cancer. In 2009 she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And in 2018 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She lived with cancer all her life really. Her husband was diagnosed with Testicular cancer in 1958. RBG lived to be 87 years old and worked until her death.
I have the image of her personal trainer doing pushups besides her casket.
She was who my thoughts turned to when I received my cancer diagnosis. I even purchased a laced collared T-shirt with the initials RBG to where at my first appointment with my oncologist after my surgery and staging.
RBG lived a long productive life. I want that for myself too. I don't think I want to work until I'm 87 but you all know what I mean.
