RP yesterday at NYU Langone
Fellas: Just wanted to update you. 62 yrs ( my birthday today) G9. Don’t have pathology back yet. Surgeon said everything went well. Spent the night in the hospital. Some stomach cramping but I’ve been walking around. Going home today. Only taking Tylenol for pain. I’m going to have some challenges on the ED and incontinence fronts due to wide excision. I’ll keep you all posted on progress.

Thanks for letting us know how you are doing and happy sucky birthday! I couldn't think of what I'd rather do less on my birthday. I hope you can overcome the ED and incontinence issues soon but for now just relax and get to healing. Tylenol worked wonders for me, I only needed the hard stuff very rarely.
Glad your RP went well. You will be in my thoughts for healing and recovery. Please keep us up to date on how you do. Try to have a happy birthday in spite of everything.
Thank you. Just got home. Pain picked up. I had to go stronger than Tylenol.. shoulder pain was really sharp
That's the gas they pump into you to give them room to work. Now that you have it, it's going to hurt for a while. Mine was also in the shoulder and it hurt like hell for about a week off and on and pinged on me for another week after that. As much as it hurts, if you work that part of your shoulder you can start to break up the gas. Worst part of recovery.
Glad to hear you are done and over with this complex and difficult part of your treatment plan - now you are on your way of getting well :).
I am wishing you fast and complete healing and at least 40 more birthdays in good health and happiness !!!
And yes, if you need stronger pain management ask for it - you need good sleep and good rest to heal fast :).
When you feel up to it, try to eat lots of protein. I always have a protein shake daily anyway but I doubled up for a couple weeks because protein promotes healing faster than anything else.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY (no doubt it will be one of the more memorable ones) and congratulations on getting the RP behind you! Looking forward to hearing about your progress in recuperation and beyond. Your diligence in choosing the path forward should bring you satisfaction and peace of mind. Way to go!

Happy Birthday, in spite of the “gift” you got!
Just take it easy, you’ve had MAJOR surgery no matter how they try to spin it.
Also watch the opioids - they will constipate you and you NEVER want to strain on the toilet after surgery - too many delicate sutures and other rejoined structures could be jeopardized - happened to me.
You probably have a diet plan laid out by your surgeon but don’t hesitate to add MiraLax or another gentle laxative if you are having issues.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Phil
That gas pain is real. Goes straight to the shoulder after parking itself under your diaphragm. They gave me the strong stuff for that one. Moving around helped me.
I'm 4 months out from surgery so I will be interested to hear about your recovery.
Good luck - we are all pulling for you !!!!
