Reopened incisions after sigmoid colon resection

Posted by sos2000 @sos2000, Dec 29, 2023

Had a sigmoid resection with a robot early December(Colon cancer stage 3 with one cancerous lymph node.) 5 incisions and a long cut. Had staples removed on 14th day after the surgery. In the evening 2 incisions reopened. Following day went to see the surgeon. No infection a nurse glued and put bandage. Surgeon said they should heal about a week. 6 days after I noticed a drainage from one of reopened incisions. It is reopened… Again trip to a surgeon. He said no infections and there’s not much can be done except to put the regular bandage and let it heal. I am now too scared to take a bandage. It has been 25 days since surgery. Is this normally healing process?

I think ‘normal’ is subdivided into ‘hoped for’ and ‘not surprised by’.

So if I understand, they aren’t going to close the incision but just let it heal from inside out? I had something similar once when a staple put in after a hysterectomy was removed probably too soon and I had to just let the two edges find each other. Just had gauze and tape that I changed daily.
