Reoccurring left side pain
I have a reoccurring left side pain issue since 2019. Hurts 6-8 weeks and then mostly gone 4-6 weeks. Been happening since 2019. Been through heart checks, stress tests, echo, and angiogram. Was told it’s not my heart. Been through abdomens CT’s and MRI’s. Gastrointestinal guys don’t thin its gastrointestinal. Told I have stenosis and radiculopathy but that Dr says it shouldn’t be the cause. Left side hurts, feels very bloated, stomach hurts, often does start with neck and back pain. No Dr will say it’s”this”. Spent 30K and still don’t know. Been referred to mayo but that was many months ago and I haven’t heard back. I’m at wits end with this. Having another bad flair up now for two weeks so far. Any ideas?? I need help.

I so sorry this is happening to you. Unfortunately I don’t have any solid diagnostics to offer.
I would recheck with mayo, as I when I requested an appointment, I was reached out to almost immediately. Perhaps for some unknown reason you have fallen through the cracks. Best to make another attempt at contact I believe.
Vague symptoms like yours can be notoriously difficult to diagnose, things like referred pain and ‘zebras’ (very uncommon diseases ) may need to be considered. Which takes me back to recontacting mayo or seeking care at a different tertiary care facility.
In the meantime, if you can try to be as specific as possible re: symptoms it will help us to help you. One specific question I have is what do you mean when you say your left side hurts. Can you delve into that?
I wish you all the best,
Laura
Have you had a colonoscopy?
My IBS pain started on the left side. It goes and comes and is very painful. It's hard to get a diagnosis on this.
I had to do an upper GI test to rule out ulcers first and then IBS was my diagnosis.
If you have diarrhea or constipation ongoing, I'm wondering if it's IBS.
Prayers for you right now to get answers and relief.
Do you by any chance have an joint replacements?
I remember many a pain flair and some of my worst kept being overlooked!
Finally in emergency room a doctor thought to check my pancreas and liver numbers.
Both were extremely high and was diagnosed with pancreatitis!
Oddly enough, I was sent home still vomiting!
I stayed nauseated and left sided burning pain - worse when I ate - until finally a year later, I got full blown pancreatitis almost exactly a year later, spring 2014.
Later that year saw a surgeon who believed my gallbladder was to blame. He removed it and suddenly the tight belt feeling and constant ache were gone!
(My gallbladder was intact but he did find very narrowed valves (?) in gallbladder.

I have something similar to you but my pain in constant it doesn’t ever go away, pain sits about a 7/10 but gets worse with use, noise or changes in temperature.
Feels like someone has drawn a line down the centre of my body and everything on the right (face to foot) has a constant radiating burning pressure, like I have a layer of static surrounding my skin.
Things as simple as clothing or breeze on my skin sends me into a pain flair
I also suffer with migraines, have severe gastrointestinal symptoms, chronic fatigue and terrible reflux
I was diagnosed with right sided ipsilateral CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome)
mine all started after a work place injury that required me to have a neck fusion C6/7 due to a prolapsed disc and spinal stenosis.
I have lost a great deal of function and have mobility issues in my back and both upper and lower right limbs
It took quite a while to get my diagnosis as with CRPS and fibromyalgia most tests come back normal or in the beginning anyways.
Have you seen a neurologist to have and EMG done, my pain is very similar to radiculopathy like I had prior to surgery?
A lot of my symptoms coincide with MS, but I have had all the MRI scans and a spinal tap to rule this out
One of my friends also has very similar symptoms to me, she has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and long covid
It might be worth trying to see a pain management Dr
I have recurring left sided pains. Sharp, random pains throughout my chest that last no more than seconds at a time but come in clusters of 5 to 10 at a time and happen with no cycle at all. Also intense but not sharp pains in my left upper abdomen/lower ribcage areas that cycle on and off. When those are active eating is a trigger but it doesn't require eating to happen. I have had multiple labs, EKGs, a CT, an MRI, several ultrasounds, an EGD, a Colonoscopy, and a Nuclear Medicine Gal Bladder scan. Everything shows "normal" so far it's just random pains in very specific areas.
I did have Grave's Hyperthyroidism but it's been in remission for over 10 years. I also have Osteoarthritis, Hyper-Mobility Syndrome (aka Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) and Trigeminal Neuralgia but no connection has been made to those issues. I did have 1 doctor suggest possible Fibromyalgia but I don't fit the criteria according to tests and my own research.
I do agree with testing, even when all the test does is rule out something. So far the NSAIDS for the Hyper-Mobility Syndrome have made the chest area pains less frequent I think, but otherwise no real answers. I just keep on keeping on!
I wish you the best of luck!
Something to consider: Levator syndrome (levator ani syndrome) is a condition that causes aching or pain in and around the anus. The pain is a result of muscle spasms in the pelvic floor muscles.Although women are more likely to be affected, it’s still possible for men to develop the syndrome.
In addition to rectal pain, levator syndrome can cause:
pain on the left side of the abdomen
pain the vagina
bloating
bladder pain
pain with urination
urinary incontinence
