Reclast infusion following frenectomy

Posted by lee1447 @lee1447, 4 days ago

I know there are many posts about Reclast and dental procedures. Most of them are awful! I know I have read some “positive” ones but now cannot find them!
I had an oral surgery procedure this week called a Frenectomy. It is an office procedure done for gum recession on the bottom front teeth. My endocrinologist calls it a “minors procedure” and the oral surgeon is very attuned to Reclast and dental issues. He recommends I wait 6 weeks before my first Reclast infusion. I just scheduled the infusion for 8 weeks after the Frenectomy. Thanks to this site, I know about an hour infusion followed by 1/2 hour saline drip, hydration before and after, Claritin and Tylenol. I will be doing all of that,

Now, I just need some positive vibes regarding having had a dental procedures! I know there was one several weeks ago! I should have printed it because I can not find it now. If some could be sent my way, I would certainly appreciate it!! I am sitting here 6 weeks after sustaining a wrist fracture slipping on ice in my driveway, I need to get the Reclast …… just looking for good vibes with this “dental STUFF”!!

lee1447, frenectomy only removes soft tissue and won't disturb or penetrate the jaw bone. On Reclast you can also have your teeth cleaned and fillings placed. Root canals and extractions can be a problem but even with those the percentage is very small and is a concern after years on bisphosphonates. You aren't at risk. And you are going to enjoy the effects of the frenectomy.

I was diagnosed with polycytemia vera exactly one year after a reclast infusion. The day after the infusion i experienced a paralysis down my left side, couldnt raise my left arm. Related? I'm suspicious, and wish I'd dug into reclast side effects before going into this rabbit hole... just saying.....

Thank you gently, for your response. I appreciate your explanation about the frenectomy. I was just so uptight after reading about the negative dental posts.

lee, you are very wise to be investigating. It sounds as though you are well prepared for the Reclast infusion. You might try to get a 4mg dose instead of the 5mg because 4 is said to work just as well with less risk of side effects.
Some patients are able to get a low dose of steroid before the injection. Some have to use a five day dose after the injection. It would be nice if your physician would write for the steroid in case you have the allergic reaction.
Are you able to get bone markers CTX and P1NP.
