Have you had whole breast radiation or specific radiation to the area of the Lumpectomy . If so How was it. I have a heart condition so i am concerned . Surgery was on the right

Hi @sue417,
I exanded the title of your discussion to reflect your question. Here's some info from Mayo Clinic "Radiation is typically used after lumpectomy. But it might not be necessary if you have only a small area of DCIS that is considered low grade and was completely removed during surgery." Radiation to the entire breast or to part of the breast will depend on the results of your pathology. I can understand your concerns. Make sure your cancer team knows about your heart condition. You may wish to ask about a cardio-oncology specialist or department where you are getting care.
Mayo Clinic offers a program to address heart problems associated with cancer treatment called cardio-oncology or for people who have a pre-existing heart condition when diagnosed with cancer. The Cardio-Oncology Clinic (https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/cardio-oncology-clinic/overview/ovc-20442193) evaluates people prior to cancer treatment and patients who have experienced side effects due their treatment, and can help evaluate treatment when you have both cancer and heart conditions.
Do you have access to a similar cardio-oncology program?
Hi
Thank you for the information I'm in Canada. So I do not know or Cancer Care team in London. Ontario is very good. I will have to find out once I get my results. My cardiologist was concerned about me having radiation. I advised my surgeon. He wants to be involved so if I do have to have it. Which my surgeon keeps saying I will. I will make sure I have that discussion. Thank you
Hi
I would just like to know any people's experience that have Ductal carsonoma in situ With radiation treatments. My surgery was on the right. He removed my nipple as the carcinoma was just above it. Awaiting pathology, January 16th.
I did radiation because they caught my tumor/ lump in the very early stages. They wanted me to do radiation for the surrounding breast tissues to prevent a reoccurrence. So far the area gets really red and itchy so I put aquaphor on it to help sooth my skin. I work as a Correctional Officer and my shift are week on week off 7/84. I’ve been getting off work at about 8.5 hours and going to my treatment then going home to rest and doing all over again. I have treatment Monday through Friday except holidays. I’m going to be doing night shift so I will get off and do my treatment when the office opens. Then go home and rest then go to work again. I’ve been trying to stay on my normal work and home routine. My husband and kids are doing more around the house so I don’t have to which is a blessing.
Hi
Thks for info. Yes mine was stage 0 dcis insitu. The way the surgeon explains it. It's easier if it's a tumor then any milk ducks to get out so the radiation is required to make sure that nothing microscopic has dropped off upon removal. Once I get my pathology and my onco type testing. I will know what's happening.
