Question about benzos
Hello. I am 44. In October I had a relapse of OCD and major depression and it was determined my Paxil was not working.
I started Zoloft and the side effects initially were horrible. I am finally starting to feel better but I do still have some trouble sleeping as I’m only 8.5 weeks in and my dosage still changes.
Is it okay to take 2mg of Clonazepam to help me function (sleep and relax at night)? I don’t need it during the day. I’ve been shamed by family members for using benzos warning me about long term side effects and abuse. I just want to get back to work. I’ve been off for a month and I feel like I’m so close.
Thanks for the help.

If you were taking clonazepam for a long time and swiftly discontinued them a month ago, I would be concerned that it’s not Zoloft causing your symptoms, but benzo withdrawal. Do I have your history wrong?

1 ReactionI did not take Clonazepam for a long period of time. Only ever took as needed. Maybe once month? But now with these side effects I find myself taking it to help me.
Hi,
I'm so sorry that you are having such issues! That's too bad! I would suggest that you look up the side effects of all of your medications that you are taking and those that you have taken and are not taking now. That will give you a description of what could possibly going on with your body and depression. It also may show if any of your medications interact badly with each other. My husband had lung cancer. I did research into all of his medications. I found several side effects that were really causing him some problems that the doctors hadn't even noticed. When I informed his doctors of my findings, they changed his prescriptions and the negative issues disappeared. Don't change anything based on your research until you talk to your doctor. Sometimes even if we are taking a medication that may be causing us problems, our body is used to it and if it's quit too soon or not in the right way, it can cause even more problems. Your doctor would know how to proceed.
Prayer also works. Just talk to God like he's your best friend and he is! He made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.

@pml I believe if you go the drugs.com website you can input all your meds and doses and get a comprehensive list of interactions. Beware, though, it is computer generated. Anything alarming discuss with your doc before having a panic attack, ok?

5 ReactionsTo get back to your original question, yes, it is generally ok to mix Zoloft and clonazepam. I would just alert your docs office that your usage has increased

Thank you for the information! I didn't know about that site. I'll look into it.

No expert, yes, long term benzodiazepines are a problem. But now is the time you need them just to function day to day. So take them as recommended while at same time strategizing to get off as you get a hold of yourself. Suggest family pound sand.

3 ReactionsI have been taking Ativan for over 20 years, it’s been the only medication that works for my anxiety, I have tried several antidepressants and other anxiety medications but they never made me feel well and I sometimes felt like a stranger in my own head. It’s very frustrating to me that I’m sometimes made to feel guilty for taking them, my own doctor who prescribed them for me over 20 years ago was putting undue pressure on me before he retired and I didn’t feel it was for my own benefit. It’s common knowledge that many medications have side effects and can also be addictive but when they start to single out a drug for bad reviews I’m inclined to think that it’s for their (pharma), own reasons, this theory is hard to prove and thus we remain the victim in this case. It’s also important to note that Pharma put out a new drug for pain management and swore to the doctors that it was safe and not addictive so that doctors could prescribe them without any harm to the patient, well guess what, this miracle drug is called Oxycotin and we’ve all learned just how harmful they are, the risk is that they won’t let the doctor prescribe much of this drug so the next problem is people are desperate due to the addictive element of this drug and sadly they turn to the “black market drugs” and they cause overdoses because they’re not safe to use. I’m truly worried that the same thing will happen with benzodiazepines if they take them away from us.
