Psoas cyst post Lumbar fusion
I underwent an L-2 to L5 fusion 10/2025. I was making progress until mid February when I developed a ‘new’ type of pain and a week of intermittent loss of bladder control. Recent lumbar MRI showed a cyst in the psoas muscle near the L5 . ( this muscle attaches to L2 to the head of the femur - ). Other noted issues .
wedge fracture L5
cord compression L-1-2.
The radiologist cannot determine the composition of the cyst. Lab work normal- no fever. Pain in flank area with walking - sitting and at night . But not severe - just throbs. The cyst is too deep for drainage via IR. Tentative plan is to do a lateral / posterior approach- to remove the cyst to determine the composition and fuse T11-S1. Second
Opinion suggested - no fusion -
Laminectomy at L1-2. Leave the cyst alone .
I can live with the pain- and the
Laminectomy should address my difficulties with walking any
Distance .. I am unsure of which direction to take.
Has anyone on this site developed a psoas cyst post a fusion ? If so,what was your experience?
