PROMISE Registry and genetic testing

Posted by smoore4 @smoore4, Jun 2 8:13am

I submitted my DNA to the PROMISE Registry (https://www.prostatecancerpromise.org) via Color.com (https://home.color.com).

Attached is a summary of the results.

My PCP, and Mayo Clinic, are pushing for genetic testing. They don't actually know that I did the tests with Color. I'm wondering if anyone has already been down this path and found it worthwhile to do additional DNA testing beyond what the PROMISE Registry does. Thanks!

Steve

I actually did two DNA tests. I did one four years ago and it found I had BRCA2. I did another one a couple years ago.

The promise study needs a certain number of people in order to build its database, I thought it made sense to also submit to that study in order to help their numbers. They of course, came up with the exact same result.

You can do it twice, but it’s a waste of time. Just let your doctors know what you found out.

Thank you Jeff. That makes sense. Steve

I did a broader genetic test in addition to Promise. Learned that I have a HOXBY13 mutation (which promise does not test for). Also learned that I have no other of the 70-something cancer related mutations they test for.

What second test did you do, if you do not me asking ? My husband did Promise test and they did not find anything. Thanks in advance 🙂

The test report says Ambry Genetics (I assume the lab) and the provider was Nestgenomics. The whole thing was ordered by the genetic counsellor at Baptist Health. I don’t know if the rest has a specific name, but it looks at 76 cancer related genes.
