Prolia relay drug

Keith McCormick writes about this in his new book "Great Bones," The standard timing is 6 months after the last Prolia, for Reclast (2nd choice alendronate). He says the timing is actually very individual and if you do it too early, the Reclast won't work and if you do it too late, you will have already possibly lost bone and increased fracture risk. He says 6 months is too early for some and too late for others and right for still others. The key, according to him, is to do blood tests to determine optimal timing. He goes into detail on how. I just moved but when I find the book I can say more! Or you could try to get the book in the library.

I decided on Alendronate as my relay drug in preference to Reclast after 3 injections of Prolia as I did not want to run the risk of having 12 months' worth of drug in me in the event of side-effects. Also, because Alendronate is taken in small doses weekly, the timing that is so crucial for Reclast is much less relevant

Having said that, Dr McCormick is of the opinion (in his youtube video interview) that, once you have taken 3 or more doses of Prolia, Alendronate would not be effective as a relay drug and you would need to use Reclast
