Prolia impact on implants
I have advanced osteoporosis.
In the past two months I have broken my L1 and have been told that I need to be on Prolia. I have had extensive dental work. I am a nervous wreck.
I would appreciate anyone sharing their experience with Prolia. My doctor said not taking an aggressive approach will increase my probability of ending up in a wheelchair.

Is your dental work already completed or is it something you have yet to do?
Have you been on any other osteoporosis meds yet? Is your provider your PCP or an endocrinologist or rheumatologist and are they giving you info about osteoporosis meds sequencing? Please make sure that you are doing your own research on osteoporosis and the current meds available. This group is such a a rich source of experience and information. I am in a similar situation, and am using Tymlos to increase my bone density before getting my hip replaced. My bone density scores are in the -4 to -5 range. My understanding is that you get a better result using the anabolic treatments, Forteo, Tymlos, and Evenity, first before using a medication that just blocks reabsorption of bone. Once you have taken Prolia, the other options may not work as well.
Just diagnosed with osteoporosis and was told to take Fosamax? (pn) I have not started it yet due to my worries about side effects and lots of expensive dental work is coming up. My doctor told me to take Fosamax and to take Omega 3 (plant based), calcium, magnesium and zinc. Also to do weight bearing exercise which I am doing. I also walk one mile and a quarter every day. I have dry eye and am a chronic insomniac. I am up at least eight times per night. I have essential tremor which my mother had and my son now has it. He is forty-seven. Mine is getting worse and has spread to the left hand. My diet is excellent and I don't take any pills or other meds. I am an eighty-one yo female. Help? My former doc referred me to a neurologist, but can't get in for eight months?
The current thinking on osteoporosis medication is to start with a bone builder(anabolic) like tymlos, forteo, evenity. If your doctor is not an expert in treating osteoporosis he may not be up to date on medications and sequencing. What were your dexa scan scores? Make sure you are reading the offerings here and other research so that you are well prepared for speaking with your provider. Can you get a referral to an endocrinologist.
Hi....
I'm 82 yrs. old and have had osteoporosis diagnosed for about 15 years. Have 3 spinal fractures, the last 2 in 2023 treated with kyphoplasty. I'm in considerable pain every day, and now my new physiatrist is offering me an ablation treatment. Has anyone had ablation for spinal pain? The nerves are deadened and it's supposed to last up to 2 or 3 years. My acupuncturist, who is also an MD, said NO to ablation, that the nerves are deadened permanently and those nerves control more than just pain in my lumbar spine. I'm at a loss and any help would be greatly appreciated.
